An Aircraft Reciprocating Engine Technician is the industry expert on the repair and overhaul of piston engines. Also known as an internal-combustion engine, reciprocating, or piston-driven engines, uses very high pressures (as much as 1,000 pounds per square inch [psi]) in a cylinder during combustion.
Reciprocating engines are the fastest selling distributed-power technology in the world today. As an Aircraft Reciprocating Engine Technician, you will diagnose problems, troubleshoot, disassemble engines, refurbish or rebuild and repair engine components and test all its operations. Considering there are more than 15,000 steps throughout an engine overhaul, this is no minor task. You have to be incredibly meticulous, well organized, impervious to pressure and able to read complex blueprints and mechanical drawings. You also have to have an excellent aptitude for mechanical components and be able to continuously challenge yourself to meet all the industry's standards and safety regulations.
